O&M Marine’s Value Proposition

satellite updateHow much is it worth to have instant access to complete operations and maintenance information for your ship or yacht, anytime, anywhere and to be able to use that information to collaborate with the shipbuilder, mechanics, fleet managers, equipment vendors, captain and crew to address emergency troubleshooting or routine maintenance issues?  We are pretty sure that you can recall (as you are reading this) a few instances when a better maintenance program or quicker, easier access to specific operations information could have saved time and/or money.

Consider the following “value features” of our system:

Portability and Interoperability
We have designed our digital O&M system with flexibility and ease of access in mind.  It can be run on many different electronic devices and from a number of standard software applications so that you can “take it with you” or run from a desktop computer terminal.

Hosted in “cloud”   Accessible via the Internet from any location at any time.

Installed on LAN/WAN Can be installed on wide area or local area company networks and accessed via hardwired network connection or Wi-Fi.

Install on shipboard networks.  Access through shipboard network from distributed Wi-Fi, if equipped.

Copy entire manual to “flash” (thumb) drive.  Easily copied to flash drive (usually 8GB)

Works with most PDF Software.  Will run with Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download), Bluebeam (recommended) and most other PDF software.

Collaboration
Operations and maintenance information for each ship is accessible to multiple parties at different locations simultaneously:

      • Fleet control
      • Shipboard crew/mechanics
      • Equipment Manufacturer Representatives
      • Service Vendors

This can help to facilitate troubleshooting and rapid resolution of issues.  If you need to bring someone new into the discussion it is as easy as sending them an email with a link to the system (usually accomplished within about 2 minutes).

Keeping Information Current
O&M Technologies can provide subscription service to keep manuals current.  When equipment is replaced or modified the ship owner notifies O&M Tech and we will add new manufacturer’s manuals, delete manuals for replaced equipment and update index linking.  This can usually be done within 48 hours of notification of a changecurrent responsiveCloud hosting allows immediate notification of modifications to all users and synchronization of manuals at dispersed locations with the most current information.cloud sync

Traditionally, with paper manuals, keeping the manuals current has been one of the most frustrating challenges and much time has been wasted sorting through poorly organized manuals to find the right information on current equipment.  Now, it is simply a matter of dropping us an e-mail notification of the change and the manual will be updated.

Quick access to critical information when time counts
Our digital O&M system is designed for the most efficient access to information on ship’s equipment.   We believe that it should take less than 1 minute to get to any information in the O&M system. Imagine the possibilities: when there is a malfunction with a piece of shipboard equipment, the bridge officer and fleet control could have manufacturer’s manuals and troubleshooting procedures opened and under review while the technician is en-route to the location of the problem.workingpad

The user interface is intuitive (no training needed for anyone that knows how to surf the internet) so it is not necessary to sit through a training video.  Just open and use.

We know that not everyone thinks the same way, so we create multiple pathways to get to the same information.  Whether you are a visual thinker or think in terms of systems and indices you will find a path to the information you need that suits you. When we build your manual we customize the organization of the information to the way your company approaches operations and maintenance.

Protect income-stream
Unanticipated equipment failures can have a serious impact on the ability of vessel and crew to deliver cargo or otherwise perform their mission.  In extreme cases this may even endanger life and property.  While we are not brash enough to suggest that our digital O&M system alone can avoid this sort of problem it can be a critical component of a program designed to avoid breakdowns and to provide for rapid resolution of problems.  Whether you are a commercial carrier, a passenger ship or a naval vessel, your clients expect reliability in the fulfillment of your mission: the delivery of their goods, a safe and enjoyable journey or the protection of their security.  Your reputation and income stream depend on your ability to fulfill that commitment.  O&M Tech’s Digital Operation and Maintenance Manual can be a key part of a reliability program that will help you deliver.

Improve efficiency of onboard and shipyard maintenance activities
Standard processes
.  Easy, portable access to manufacturer’s recommended maintenance procedures helps to insure that mechanics perform maintenance activities the same way every time.  Our manuals consolidate and summarize all manufacturer’s recommended maintenance activities and maintenance intervals for every piece of equipment on the vessel.  Each listed maintenance activity has a quick access link to the manufacturer’s procedure (if provided) for that activity.  This helps to improve quality and consistency of performance of maintenance work and to avoid mistakes.  Comprehensive listing of activities with intervals and “last maintenance date/next maintenance date” function avoids missed preventive maintenance activities.

Training Videos.  Many equipment manufacturers provide training videos for their equipment.  All manufacturer-provided training videos are included in the manual and listed in an index of all available training videos.  O&M Tech will provide assistance in creating training videos on standard operating and maintenance procedures when desired by your company or you can create them yourself.   This can be a very efficient way to get new staff and crew “up to speed” quickly on procedures that are part of their job responsibilities.  It helps to standardize procedures and effectively transfer specialized knowledge that might otherwise depend on word-of-mouth communication.  When your company subscribes to our annual subscription service we automatically add any new videos to the manual whenever they are created.

Digital Manual as a Training Vehicle.  When new staff and crew join your team, a review of the Digital Operation and Maintenance Manual is a good way for them to quickly familiarize themselves with ship’s systems and operating procedures.  Navigation is simple and intuitive.  An hour or two with the manual will impart an amazing amount of knowledge.
